Staffing company Agila applies for corporate restructuring: "The goal is to save the business, jobs and essential services" Agila Group AB is one of the Nordic countries' leading companies for healthcare staffing and recruitment within health, medical care and social care. The business has been operating since 2008 but has now found itself in an acute liquidity situation that forces the board and management to act. The company has applied for corporate restructuring to the Stockholm District Court with the aim of creating long-term sustainable financial conditions, saving the business, jobs and essential services. The restructuring was granted on March 13. Daily operations are continuing as usual during the restructuring process without any impact on employees, hired consultants or clients. The background to the situation is a sharp decline in the market in recent years, mainly caused by the regions' restrictions on hiring healthcare personnel. Since the beginning of 2024, Agila has taken extensive cost-saving measures and adapted its operations to counter the reduced revenue volumes. At the same time, the company has made strategically important investments in its business system to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of the business. For this investment, the company has actively sought external capital and had an investor almost anchored, but he chose to withdraw at the last minute. Overall, the board and management are now forced to act to manage the liquidity challenges.
-For us, the coming period is about putting an end to a difficult time that has affected the entire industry. Unfortunately, we have a backpack of old debts that weigh down liquidity, which we now have to manage. The business has a healthy core, so there are good conditions for us to be able to cope with this situation, says Henrik Ottemo, CEO of Agila Group. Corporate restructuring is an instrument for companies that have liquidity difficulties but that in the long term have good prospects of continuing to exist. During the restructuring, the company is given time to reorganize and rebuild its finances and operations. This takes place step by step according to a set process set out in the law and is carried out in cooperation with a restructuring officer approved by the district court. The ordinary board and management still represent and are responsible for the operations during the restructuring.
-It is a sad and tough decision to apply for reconstruction, but we must create long-term sustainable conditions for the company so that we can save jobs and the business. In the short term, it is sad that creditors risk being affected, but in the long term, this marks a turning point that can make us stronger and more stable as a supplier and employer, says Henrik Ottemo, CEO of Agila Group. Nils Åberg from the law firm Carler has been appointed as the reorganiser. During the process, operations will continue as usual. Already when applying for corporate restructuring, the company receives protection against bankruptcy and contractual parties cancelling contracts. All active companies within the group are affected by the restructuring, with the exception of Agila Hälsa.
