Human beings prefer an easy life. In fact according to science, laziness is a survival skill. Yet this does not explain why some people only do the absolute minimum, and often not even that.
Long before we founded Agila, we discussed how tired we were of organisations and individuals not doing their job well, who worked in a very slipshod way or did not seem to care. One example is how common it was to not receive a reply to an email or to even receive an unfriendly answer. We often had the impression that many of them were not all that interested in their clients. When we decided to establish Agila, we knew from the beginning that our company would deliver more. Always. And that this approach would be evident in everything we do, such as recruitment, organisational structure, and keeping in touch with consultants, clients and partners. Every day.
Take a look around. You will find this situation everywhere – a majority being happy with “good enough”, while a few others ask themselves: How could we make this better? This is not a new phenomenon. Thirty years ago there were companies manufacturing typewriters and adding machines; hardly anyone was interested in developing smaller-scale computers. Similarly, since coal and oil were abundant, only a few pioneers believed in alternative sources of energy like wind power and solar energy. This attitude is just as prevalent in the service sector.
Most companies will do what is required, and rarely anything more. Many are afraid that doing more will lead to higher costs. In reality, it is standing still that actually costs more. If you don’t keep moving, the current will push you back; this is why the paddle was invented in the Stone Age.
At Agila, we push against the current every minute and every hour of every day. We question the status quo; we don’t lean back and take it easy. Our company always does a little bit more. We cannot imagine ever saying “that’s good enough”. We want to make things better for every competent professional who has placed their trust in us. We always endeavour to find the most suitable position for them.
“Good enough” is simply not good enough. Our reward is the satisfaction we feel when we meet the needs of our consultants and clients, ensuring that they know we are listening to them. And that we really care. We always do a little bit more. And we will continue to do that. Forever.
